Marco Bezzecchi took a confident win at the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimão, finishing ahead of Álex Márquez and Pedro Acosta.
The race began with Bezzecchi keeping the lead into Turn 1, followed by Acosta and Marc Márquez. Early on, there was plenty of action in the midfield, especially between Fermín Aldeguer and Brad Binder. At Turn 5, Aldeguer made a forceful move that pushed Binder slightly off line, costing the KTM rider a piece of rear aero.
A few corners later, Franco Morbidelli crashed after contact with Pol Espargaró, while Enea Bastianini also had contact and was forced to pit for a bike swap due to front-wheel damage.
At the front, Bezzecchi began to pull away. Márquez stayed within half a second for several laps, but couldn’t get close enough to attack. Acosta, who had started strongly, dropped back and focused on defending third place from Aldeguer.
Francesco Bagnaia, who later crashed, had been running in fifth ahead of Fabio Quartararo. Binder recovered well from his earlier contact to overtake Quartararo, despite the aero damage.
By mid-distance, Bezzecchi was the only rider still lapping in the 1:38s, building a lead of more than 1.5 seconds over Márquez. Acosta remained third, while Aldeguer, Binder, and Quartararo followed behind.
In the closing laps, Acosta started to close in on Márquez, whose front tyre showed visible wear. The gap fell to under a second with two laps remaining, but Márquez held firm.
Bezzecchi crossed the line with a comfortable lead to take a dominant victory. Márquez secured second after a solid ride under pressure, while Acosta completed the podium with another mature performance.
Aldeguer finished fourth, Binder fifth, and Quartararo sixth. Ai Ogura took seventh ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio, Johann Zarco, and Pol Espargaró, who rounded out the top ten.
Nicolò Bulega finished 15th on his debut, standing in for newly crowned world champion Marc Márquez, and scored his first MotoGP point.
The MotoGP riders now have just one race left this season, the finale in Valencia. The Márquez brothers have already secured the top two positions in the championship, while the fight for third remains open. Portuguese Grand Prix winner Marco Bezzecchi is in the strongest position, though Francesco Bagnaia still holds a slim mathematical chance of claiming the spot.
